About Center Meeting House

The Center Meeting House organization is a 501(c)3 charity registered with the IRS, that works to restore, preserve and encourage the use of our Center Meeting House, located at the center of scenic Newbury, New Hampshire. This glorious building is a showcase of our town’s history, and serves as a grand venue for a variety of town-wide events or intimate family, cultural or civic gatherings.

We expect that the Center Meeting House will:

  • Be the heart of our community
  • Connect us to our forefathers
  • Host cultural, social and family events
  • Encourage the exchange of ideas

Our Vision
It is our vision to preserve the Center Meeting House for future generations and to make it a center for activities that will unite and enrich our community.

The impact of our Mission and Vision statements is a building that is not only secure for another two centuries, but one which also plays a central role in the lives of our community members and their families.

Members of the Board

Who We Are

The Board of Directors owns the Center Meeting House on behalf of its members. This Board is responsible for overseeing the efforts to carefully and lovingly restore this beautiful building, as well as maintain it for generations to come. The Directors are elected for three-year terms by the members of this organization.

Members

  • Joy Nowell
    Having grown up in Atlanta, Joy feels deeply the value of preserving local history and heritage. She is honored to have been part of the restoration and preservation of the Center Meeting House.
  • Maureen Rosen
    Maureen volunteers as photographer and designer of printed material for the Center Meeting House and several other organizations. She and her husband Arthur live in Newbury and enjoy Adventures in Learning at Colby-Sawyer College, volunteering, boating and gardening.
  • Ivor Freeman

    Ivor is awe of the great community spirit in Newbury as exemplified by the support for its Center Meeting House. He is happy to work to enhance that spirit.

  • Chuck Kennedy
    Chuck has been coming to Newbury for summers since 1950. He retired from Virginia Tech in 1994 and started teaching courses in Adventures in Learning at Colby-Sawyer College on such varied topics as Islam, Colonialism, Vaudeville and Old Time Radio.
  • Judy Healey
    Judy has a very strong sense of community for our wonderful Town and strongly believes in Center Meeting House. She also serves on the Friends of the Library Board and volunteers for NBC and at The Fells
