Dive Deep with Judy and Wayne LaPorte: Memories, Stories and Photos
As Judy says, “We started diving in 1957 when we came back from Japan. Wayne was helping his mother and brother run the garage and filling station. They had a little tiny tackle shop in the back of the office and when the salesperson came from Concord he said he had some new items – a scuba tank and regulator. He thought they might be interested in what they could find in the Lake.
It was so new at that point that there was no one to teach us how to use it. It was trial and error, but we managed to learn and really fell in love with being under the water. It is so peaceful down there – no phones. We got a small compressor and started filling the Fire Dept Scott packs for them, many times at 3:00 in the morning on freezing cold nights. We weren’t sorry when they purchased their own air compressor. ”
